Finding Hygge in the Mundane
Good afternoon all. This blog post I am enjoying hot cocoa and my oversized blanket hoodie. It's like a knockoff Snuggie. I have started my career as a paraprofessional at a local high school. If you're not sure what a paraprofessional is, at least in this situation, basically my duties entail helping the teacher with tasks and help the students with their assignments. I am very excited to work in my new setting and I'll have more time to work on my writing.
I wanted to share my news because it relates to today's topic: hygge in the mundane. My career isn't anything magical or especially creative, and hygge doesn't have to be either. It isn't necessary to create something from nothing, nor is it necessary to buy anything to feel hygge. I mentioned something similar in my last post "Low-Buy Year" in which too many posts on social media support buying certain appliances or over-priced brands of products to make the space cohesive, but that can be expensive and unnecessary. The magic of hygge is already in your household and you.One way to notice the hygge is to count accomplishments made. College degree, for one. Dream job, for another. Or for "smaller" accomplishments that still hold a lot of value -- drinking a healthy amount of water for the day, or making your bed. It is very hyggeligt to feel proud of yourself.

Another way to notice the hygge is to slow down and be present in the moment. Hygge doesn't have to be about something that you have done. Perhaps the sweater you are wearing today feels extra cozy. Or, the drink you're having is very satisfying. The mundane is everyday tasks that you otherwise wouldn't think about, but when you take a moment to revel in the present, you will see the magic and feel the hygge. It's similar to feeling grateful for where you are at this
time in your life, or for what you have gained.
