Hygge Hobbies
Welcome back to our safe space. This morning, I made Chaga (a
mushroom) tea with cinnamon, sugar, maple syrup and milk. It is delicious and
better than coffee in all kinds of ways. In our last post, I talked about
hobbies and how important it is to incorporate a hobby in your busy life. In
this post, I will talk about my specific hobbies and how each help me live
hygge.
· Knitting! I learned to knit when I was in high
school and joined a knitting club. I stopped that hobby when I entered
community college and picked it back up again three years ago. I finished my
first scarf and moved onto a baby blanket I made for a friend. Now, I am
knitting a blanket for my grandma. I am fidgety and will bite my cuticles when
I am anxious or bored. I bite my cuticles most often when I’m watching my shows
or movies. Knitting has curbed that bad habit because it keeps my fingers and
hands busy. When learning how to knit, I had to think in a different way and
allow myself to get frustrated. Now as I knit, both my mind and my hands are
calm. Knitting has become a relaxing and enjoyable hobby. Another great thing
about knitting is that it’s not time consuming; it was when I was learning how,
but if I have five minutes, I can easily pick back up where I left off.
·
Video games! Specifically cozy games, like
Stardew Valley, Animal Crossing, and Cozy Grove. These games allow a break in
the busy life and thinking about anything too difficult. Some tasks to complete
can be hard because they may take a few days to complete, find hidden objects,
or fight creatures, but otherwise, I am taking care of animals, farming, and
creating. All three games that I mentioned are cute and they are great to
cuddle up in bed with some snacks. Also, these games are available on the
Nintendo Switch, which is what I use to play, and Stardew Valley is available online.
·
Reading and writing! Reading will instantly help
you live hygge. I always carry a book with me, whether I’m at school and
waiting for my next class or waiting at the doctor’s office. I love reading at
the beach, but the most hygge of all is reading in my room, facing the window.
Last week, I had my chair turned so that I could face the window, which I opened
a crack, and while I read in the natural light, I breathed in the fresh air as
I listened to it rain. I also love writing, which is what I am studying in
school. I keep two journals: one for my personal thoughts and another for novel
ideas and poems. Writing is a great way to reflect and explore.
·
Creating! I have a small business where I create
bookmarks if you don’t already know. I make these bookmarks with watercolor
paper, watercolor paint, and coffee, and I draw freehand designs. Some designs
contain books, animals, and little mushroom people, but all designs contain
mushrooms. I always loved painting with watercolors and it was always a great
way to express myself.
If you do not already have a hobby, I can suggest some that might be interesting. I mentioned knitting, but some people have told me they think crocheting is easier, so why not try your hand at both? Once I finish the blanket, I plan on learning how to crochet. Painting or drawing are two hobbies that allow creativity to flow and allow a break from thinking about work or your next task on your to-do list. Baking and cooking are also great creative hobbies. If you can read, you can cook. I personally enjoy baking more and Pinterest has tons of recipes to try. My sister is into pottery and has created beautiful bowls and cups.
If you do have a hobby or two you
would like to share, then I would love for you to. I understand that the
comment section below the post only works if you already have a blog, so if you
follow my KamenaMarks Instagram account, I will have an option to reply to my
story. That will be up until tomorrow morning, and in my next post, I will
share your hobbies. Thank you for reading and I hope this helps bring more hygge
to your life. <3
