Hygge Gift Ideas
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to those reading this latest blog post. I hope you all enjoyed your Thanksgiving and are ready to delve into the Christmas spirit! For this writing session, I am listening to Christmas Lofi radio on YouTube, and I have a yummy cup of apple cinnamon tea with Adirondack honey. Please join me with your own comforting beverage and a woobie (plush blanket) as we discuss hygge presents.
Here is the link to the music I'm listening to for the season: Lofi Christmas radio I'd love for you to listen along!
I am also attaching links to gift recommendations that will send you to a separate page to show you what I am referring to, but no need to click them if you don't want to.
A friend of mine suggested I write about presents to give this holiday that may introduce the concept of hygge. Otherwise, you can use this post for gift inspiration. A good way to think of hygge gifts is to imagine an ideal reading nook or what you would want on movie night. For example, cozy lounge socks, a woobie, a mug for a delicious drink, snack tray, a fluffy pillow, or a candle with a calming scent.
If you're into DIY-ing, one idea is filling a mason jar with all the fixings for the perfect hot cocoa: marshmallows, hot cocoa mix, cinnamon, nutmeg, and tied with a ribbon. Another idea would be putting a basket together a charcuterie board: cheese, crackers, cutting board, cheese knife, pepperoni, and maybe a bottle of wine. You could also make a garland of popcorn or dried apples and oranges, but don't forget to make one for yourself! If you knit or crochet, you could make socks, mittens, or a sweater. DIY gifts are possibly the ultimate hygge experience, because not only are you taking the time to make something special and thoughtful, but it's relaxing and creative time spent with yourself.
If the person you are gifting to is a tea drinker or a coffee drinker, I have a few ideas. When I am making myself a cup of coffee, I always reach for my frother. It's the best for mixing in my cinnamon, sugar, and creamer. You could also use a frother for hot cocoa and energy drinks. When it comes to tea drinkers, an engraved teaspoon is a lovely idea. If you are into DIY-ing and have a garden or access to herbs and spices, you can put together a specialized tea bag, or two (of course, buying a box of tea bags works just as well). For either, a ceramic to-go mug would be very handy.
For anyone into baking or cooking, homemade foods are wonderful gifts. Who doesn't love receiving treats? I love gifting cookies made from scratch. These can also be given to multiple people, and perfect for bringing to dinner parties.
I would also like to include the Hygge card game. It's called "The Hygge Game: Cozy conversation in pleasant company," and it's exactly as described. It's a card game with zero competition and mainly focuses on having conversation with the people you're with. It's great for parties and small get togethers, or one-on-one hangouts where you can get to know each other a little better. It's also great for when conversation lags. Hygge is all about intimacy and inclusion, so with this game, everyone can be involved without any pressure.
And, of course, The Little Book of Hygge: Danish Secrets to Happy Living by Meik Wiking. This book explains hygge and everything the word entails. It would be the perfect gift for introducing the concept, and would best accompany a pair of lounge socks and a box of tea.
I also want to mention that I have bookmarks for sale specific to the winter holiday. They're available on my Etsy shop and Instagram at KamenaMarks. My bookmarks are handmade and perfect stocking stuffers for any reader, or coffee lover, and can be placed in a book, on a shelf, or a desk. Besides the ones listed on my shop, I can make personalized bookmarks, such as pets. There is absolutely no pressure to purchase one of mine, but a bookmark would be a hygge idea for an avid reader.
I think it's important to remind ourselves that it's not necessary to spend too much money. Shopping can be fun, but it can also be full of pressure. What I like the most about hygge is that it reminds you to let go of any stress and worry you may be feeling. I have included ideas that do not require a lot of spending, or any at all. Most things can be quite expensive, but you can also find similar items for a lot less. I recommend thrifting, Amazon, or stores like Marshalls and HomeGoods, but of course, depending on taste, shop where you please. I want my readers to come to my blog feeling at ease and my intention is to make make you feel comfortable and at home.
All these hygge gift ideas can be enjoyed together, and that's the best part about them! The purpose of hygge and Christmas is to bring one another closer together. I hope these ideas helped and you enjoyed reading. Thank you and Merry Christmas!
